There is little left of CES 2022 in Las Vegas and more precisely of January 4, when Nvidia will hold a conference in which he will reveal new GeForce RTX 3000 video cards for desktops and laptops. Especially in the desktop environment, with the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 Ti renewals having been shelved for a date to be determined, the focus should not only be on the RTX 3090 Ti but also on the GeForce RTX 3050the new entry door of the Ampere series.
According to the last rumorsTHE GeForce RTX 3050 could occur not in one but in two versions, characterized by different amounts of VRAM on board but not only. A model must be based on a GA106 GPU with 2560 CUDA cores side-by-side with 8GB GDDR6 memorywhile the second should have the same GPU with 2304 CUDA cores and 4 GB of VRAM. In both cases, the memory bus must be a 128 bit.
It is unclear why NVIDIA should opt for the GA106 when the GA107 used in laptops precisely for the RTX 3050/3050 Ti offers up to 2560 CUDA cores and the same memory bus. If confirmed, the pick could be tied to scarcity and possibly not-so-exciting returns for the GA106. On the one hand, Nvidia could guarantee a good contribution of GA107 to notebooks and at the same time recover insufficient GA106 to end up on more high-end cards (the GPU offers up to 3840 CUDA cores) for the two new models.
The GeForce RTX 3050 is, as mentioned, expected to be announced on January 4, 2022 and debut on January 27. It is unknown if a Ti version will arrive in the future, which has also been rumored in the past, or if the two 3050s with different VRAM will be available immediately.
