Like all new products, the full-frame mirrorless flagship Nikon Z9 also suffers from some teething troubles. Earlier this year, the Japanese manufacturer released the version 1.10 camera firmware. Now is the time for another setting, with the version 1.11.
Here are the details of the new functions and the corrections to the problems introduced by the two firmwares:
- Changes from “C” firmware version 1.10 to 1.11

- Fixed an issue that prevented the camera from focusing on detected subjects during video recording with all of the following options chosen inREC MENU VIDEO:
- –Image area>Choose the image area:DX
- –AF-area mode: anyLarge (small) area AF,Wide-area AF (large),Material tracking autofocusAndAuto-area AF
- –Subject-tracking AF options>Subject detection: Any option other thanWithout subject tracking
- Typos in the names of some entries in group a have been corrected (To concentrate) ofPERSONALIZATION MENUin some languages.
- Added support for NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S lenses (from firmware version “C” 1.10).
- Fixed an issue that prevented the camera from focusing on detected subjects during video recording with all of the following options chosen inREC MENU VIDEO:
- Changes from firmware version 1.00 “C” to 1.10

- Added support for the NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S lens.
- Sequence time has been increased for dual format images (NEF/RAW + JPEG or JPEG + JPEG) shot at 20 fps in high-speed continuous shutter mode.
- Firmware version “C” 1.00:
- -NEF/RAW (High Efficiency★) + JPEG Basic (Large): approx. 3 seconds*
- -JPEG Slot 1 – JPEG Slot 2 (Slot 1: JPEG Fine (Large); Slot 2: JPEG Basic (Small)): Approx. 3 seconds*
- Firmware version “C” 1.10:
- -NEF/RAW (High Efficiency★) + JPEG Basic (Large): approx. 8 seconds*
- -JPEG Slot 1 – JPEG Slot 2 (Slot 1: JPEG Fine (Large); Slot 2: JPEG Basic (Small)): Approx. 8 seconds*
* The length of footage that can be shot before the frame rate decreases. Figures are reference values obtained by internal measurements using a NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S lens and ProGrade Digital COBALT 1700R 325GB CFexpress memory card. The duration of the sequence will in certain circumstances be reduced, even if:
- –Backupsis selected forCard Role in Slot 2or
- –TOis selected forAutomatic distortion control.
- Firmware version “C” 1.00:
- The options selected in the listFiltered reading criteriain theREAD MENUthey can now be selected and deselected by pressing the multi selector right.
- Fixed an issue that prevented optional SB-5000 Speedlights from synchronizing with the shutter when all of the following conditions were met:
- -A shutter speed faster than the flash sync speed was selected with1/200 sec. (Auto FP)or1/250 sec. (Auto FP)chosen for e1 customizationFlash sync speedin thePERSONALIZATION MENU.
- -The SB-5000 was controlled by AWL radio using an optional WR-R10 or WR-R11a wireless remote control mounted on the camera.
- -The flash was not mounted on the hot shoe of the camera.
