The Radeon RX6950XTpresumed new high-end from AMD rumored to arrive mid-April, could have a clock boost above 2.5 GHz. The news was given by leaker Greymon55, a generally rather reliable source, via his Twitter account.
The Radeon RX 6950 XT would then be significantly higher boost frequency than AMD’s benchmark Radeon RX 6900 XTplanned to go up to 2250 MHz, but not only: the newcomer would also leave behind the RX 69000 XT Liquid Cooled and its 2435 MHz.
The news is actually not surprisingwe have seen on the market several RX 6900 XTs based on the selected Navi 21 XTXH GPU going well beyond 2.5 GHz, for example the Sapphire Toxic Extreme is capable of reaching up to 2730 MHz liquid, a solution that could not or could not also adopt the Radeon RX 6950 XT, at the moment it is not known.
The new model is expected to be based on a Navi 21 XTXH GPU like these custom models, but AMD would have managed to select its GPUs even better to push itself to the new boost clock level. The fastest air-cooled custom Radeon RX 6900 XT to date is the XFX Speedster MERC 319, capable of reaching 2495 MHz.
Due to the higher frequency, the leaker believes the Radeon RX 6950 XT will have a TDP of 350W50W more than the air-cooled 6900 XT and 20W more than the liquid-cooled one, but much less than some custom bikes seen so far: the Toxic Extreme indeed reaches 430W.
As a reminder, the Radeon RX 6950 XT GPU should continue to be manufactured at 7 nanometerswhile the memory should be set to 18 Gbps (compared to 16 Gbps on the RX 6900 XT). The card should contend with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, of which there is no more news from CES 2022 as NVIDIA announced the arrival of new information for the end of January.
