THE NFT (non-fungible tokens) they seem destined to occupy an important place in the world of video games of tomorrow. One of the most anticipated next-gen shooters, STALKER 2 Heart of Chernobylwill use it through a dedicated platform, according to a recent announcement from the software house GSC Game World.
STALKER 2: How to become a non-player character by purchasing an NFT
The Ukrainian software house has in fact announced that STALKER 2 will use the technology of block chain to allow players to take exclusive ownership of part of the game itself. This includes the possibility of becoming the “first metahuman”a definition by which GSC refers to a non-player character in the world of STALKER 2 which will acquire the aesthetic characteristics of the user in possession of the NFT.
This type of character will be rendered with a very high level of detail to look as close as possible to the person who bought the NFT. Players will be able to bid for a chance to acquire the necessary NFT, with the auction starting next January. This NFT can then be resold and can change ownership until a deadline (yet to be determined) when the game artists will convert the NFT into STALKER 2’s internal non-player character. Naturally, this mechanic is designed in the hope that the NFT can acquire value over time and be resold at very high pricesas is often the case with NFTs.
“We want to give an NFT the possibility to be played in the game” he said Yevgeny GrygorovichCEO of GSC Game World. “The person will need to come to our studio for a detailed scanning procedure, after which we will have everything needed to create the NPC to be placed in the game world”.
Already in the past, GSC had illustrated in a video (shown on this page) how its technology works face photogrammetry with which he creates the most photorealistic characters possible for his open-world shooter. As for the NFT STALKER 2, I will use the platform DMarket. STALKER 2 Heart of Chernobyl will be released in April 2022 on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
The idea of owning a virtual object within a game world that will be visited by many players can have significant consequences, and create significant business opportunities. ubisoft run something very similar inside Ghost Recon Breakpoint, while coming up against the reluctance of the gaming community. In this case, in fact, to obtain an NFT simply by playing, and not by paying, it would take even 600 hours of play, which could be considered morally questionable. Also the very famous game designer of management games Pierre Molyneux he’s thinking about NFTs for his next game.
