Windows Tuesday February Patch Fixes 48 Security Flaws

New wave of updates for operating systems supported by Microsoftas it happens on the occasion of each Tuesday patch. The second Tuesday of the month is always hired by Microsoft to update its software park, and in February 2022 it released the package KB5010386 on Windows 11 which introduces security and quality improvements.

The new package, available on Windows Update as usual, causes the OS to build 22000.493. This is a recommended update because, as usual, it fixes dozens of recently identified vulnerabilities. The changelog is particularly poor, as has been the case for a few months: Microsoft no longer provides detailed information on the patches introduced, and the only non-security patch related to a problem with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)which may not guarantee the proper functioning of the operation change in the presence of certain specific attributes.

Windows 11, Patch Tuesday news and bug fixes

Below is the full changelog published by the development team:

Strong points

  • Updates the security of your Windows operating system.

Improvements and fixes

This security update includes quality improvements. The main changes include:

  • Addresses an issue that causes a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modify operation to fail if the operation contains the SamAccountName and UserAccountControl attributes. The error message is, Error: 0x20EF. The directory service encountered an unknown failure.

There are no known issues in the new version, at least as stated in the notes released by the developer. We also remind you that, although the package is available through Windows Update, installation occurs automatically on all eligible systems. For those who didn’t install last week’s optional updates, which address some issues causing degraded performance of storage units, Windows Update will also install these latest fixes (even if they are not present in the change log).

Additionally, Microsoft has introduced new patches mitigations for 48 security vulnerabilities on Windows 10 and Windows 11including a vulnerability of 0 days, and 22 vulnerabilities in Microsoft Edge. None of the flaws were marked as critical, while the 0-day vulnerability was a “Windows Kernel Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability”. None of the vulnerabilities have been actively exploited, but we still recommend installing update packages as proofs of concept are publicly available in some cases demonstrating how to carry out the attack.
